Whether you don skis or a snowboard, North America offers dozens of amazing destinations in major ski areas throughout California, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Canada and the Northeast. CheapTickets has plenty of great ski vacation getaways. Now it's up to you to pick where.
Colorado
When people think of the best ski resorts in the United States, the first place that usually comes to mind is Colorado. Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado lays claim to some of the best ski resorts in the world for fantastic ski vacations. Whether you want to snowboard in Steamboat or après-ski in Aspen, Colorado has much to offer. Add in world-class ski resorts and spas, in spots like Vail and Telluride, Colorado skiing is a first-class destination.
Utah
Located in the western Rocky Mountains, Utah is a bit more laid back than Colorado when it comes to ski resort destinations. With killer ski resorts in Alta, Park City, Deer Valley and the Canyons, Utah's powder is second to none. Take things to the next level and head to Sundance, created by Robert Redford. This ski/cultural destination has helped shine the spotlight on Utah due to its annual Sundance Film Fest. Either way, Utah offers incredible options for ski vacations.
California/Nevada
Most people think of sun and surf when they hear California, but the Golden State has some of the best skiing around. Nestled into the Sierra Nevada mountain range, California's best ski resorts are close to both Los Angeles and San Francisco, like Bear Valley or Mammoth Mountain. Or just head straight to a ski resort in Lake Tahoe for world-class snow. Best of all, Tahoe gives you access to Nevada and gambling.
Canada
There are lots of things you can blame Canada for, but having bad ski destinations is not one of them. The Canadian Rockies boast some of the best skiing and breathtaking views anywhere in the world while eastern Canada possesses a European feel. Between Banff and Whistler in the west and Tremblant back east, Canada has it all. Throw in towering pines and incredibly-close access to Vancouver and Montreal, and you have one heck of a ski vacation ahead of you.
Northeast
Skiing in the Northeast isn't for wimps or the faint of heart. If you're used to skiing the powder of the west, you'll be in for a surprise. Northeast skiing, in places like Killington and Stowe in Vermont and Sugarloaf in Maine, is challenging and a bit more extreme. There's a reason the winter Olympics were once held in Lake Placid, N.Y. But the payoff is great: incredible beauty, gorgeous vistas and hot-tubbing apres ski is well earned.
